Making steady progress in getting the last of the junk cleared. The dining room, once packed with redundant paperwork, is nearly cleared now and I have started on the box room upstairs, clearing out an entire cupboard of cloth and wool that Tineke collected but did not use. I hope to have found a good home for it. Some money's worth there... wish I had time to sell it and raise a few quid. The days are getting shorter now and there was a definite autumnal chill in the air when I took Sox for his
last sniff around the block at 01.30. It is so wonderful that the Borough Council now turn off the unneeded street lights after 01.00; except for the lights still coming from houses (which seem to shine like beacons), darkness holds sway again and one can see the stars clearly on a cloudless night. It feels more natural like this. The night should be ruled by darkness, its reign broken only by the light of the stars and the moon. It is good to feels one's pupils dilate to drink in the ambient light available, to feel all the senses heightened - taking in the scents of the surroundings, hearing every small sound and allowing one's feet to become more aware of every variation in the ground beneath them. A time that is simultaneously both restful and exciting.
